Training with a Parent.
By Malcolm Hornsby
Should I start my training with a parent?
Many learner drivers do start learning to drive in the family car, as from a very
young age they will become aware of the controls and their function. They also become
unconsciously aware of the attitudes displayed by their parents to the law and other
road users. Recent study indicate that training obtained from a supervising parent
is often of little or no assistance to the learner driver, as the stressful nature
of learning to drive often causes the parent to become upset, in turn creating anxiety
in the learner. Anxiety retards learning to the point that you would be better off
not learning to driver with any person that causes you to become upset. In addition
amateur driver trainers often have little knowledge or understanding of driver training
requirements.
On the other hand practise with a tutor is an important stage in the learning process.
Tutoring however, needs to be combined with professional training to be effective
as it is little use practising poor driving technique.
